The Order of the Sun and Moon, St Ives. Online Exhibition Catalogue

The  paintings that I’m showing at The Crypt Gallery as part of the Order of the Sun and Moon, seem to me to be something to do with the Soul painting its own transformation.

I think, perhaps, there’s a witch in place mutating. 

I paint from the unconscious, from the other worlds.  So what emerges on the canvas is, to begin with, unknown to my conscious mind.  But I notice things; and contemplation of those things feeds back into the work. And so,  to me, they seem to be concerned with the relationship between the moon and the sun.  The transformational dance between lunar and solar consciousness and the unconscious. And In these paintings womb-like forms, boats, birds, geometric shapes and strange, otherworldly creatures seem to exist in a kind of cosmic psyche within the landscape.
